Yapham match report
Won by about 70 runs. Possibly because they gave us a right thrashing last year, Yapham put out a much friendlier side consisting mainly of younger players and club stalwarts. We scored 190 in 35 overs, losing only one wicket in reaching our total; albeit with two retirements upon reaching 50. Faced with tight early bowling from Howard Elgot and Jim Watling, the opposition were never really in the hunt and their total after 35 overs, was just 119-4. We were well skippered by Knighty, who gave Howard, Nick and myself 20 overs between us – which should shut us up for at least a couple of weeks, not least because we will all still by aching during this timescale. A fuller report from Matthew will appear shortly; the opposition’s report of the match, along with some photographs, may be found here.
The highlight of the game, referred to in their report, was Hawkins being reverse swept by opposition skipper, Martin Eede – who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. If we had a champagne moment trophy for opposition “moments”, this would surely be an early contender.
Apologies to Rohan for boring him to death about the greatest album by an Australian band that no one has ever heard of. See here for more details!!
Thanks especially to debutants Rob Johnson and Bobby Mushtaq, I hope you both enjoyed the afternoon. I will be sending you some more details regarding the club shortly.
